Diffusion Weighted MRI
Anisotropic diffusion is present in the octopus brain even though there is no myelination – as evidenced in the top row which shows fibers originating in the middle of the optic tract in an axial slice at the level of the optic tract. Muscle fibers in the arms are also well delineated as seen in the bottom row depicting an axial slice near the tip of the beak.
