Inspiration
Maria recently found her Alice in Wonderland book and we were inspired to craft a world that manifest this new magical world via technology. We settled on combining a physical watch remiscient of Alice in Wonderland elements that projected the iconic Tea Party scene once scanned with AR.
Processes
Maria: I was working on constructing the physical watch and had to play around a lot with the laser scanner settings in order to preserve the leather’s reddish tint. I enjoyed being creative in the way I approached this problem by lowering the settings and running the machine twice as well as by taping my material to avoid coloring it. I also really enjoyed modeling objects in blender and improving my skills at 3D modeling.
Yvette: Modeled the watch in blender which gets printed out as the anchor. Also prepared character and rigs although failed to be implemented due to time and technical limitations. I was able to strengthen 3D modeling skill in the process.
Henry: I worked on the virtual AR world via Adobe Aero. I began by taking the knowledge I learned from the previous assignment and began building the iconic Tea Party scene. I took pre-built assets from Adobe Aero to model the world along with detailed elements like trees, bush, grass, and flowers from Sketchfab to enhance it. I also played around with 2D images by duplicating and layering them so it has a 3D effect. This was what it looked like:
However, when I went to export it as a link, it could never work (the file size was 1600mb+). Same thing for when I attempted to project the world on my phone- the Adobe Aero app just crashed each time. Upon deleting multiple objects, I realized that Adobe Aero simply could not handle the detailed 3D assets from Sketchfab. Thus I went ahead and built a new world from scratch using pre-built assets from Adobe Aero itself. I also added some animations like the “open me” box to encourage interactivity and moving animals. We also went ahead and added an Alice in Wonderland soundtrack founded by Maria and anchored the image of the watch face into Aero so the world would project on the watch.
