We study aspects of the visual system’s structure, function, and degeneration using transgenic mouse models.
Vision is the primary way through which most of us experience the world. Our aim is to further an understanding of vision at a molecular level. We examine cells in the retina, a thin layer of tissue at the back of the eye that controls the first steps in visual perception. Such research leads to the development of strategies to prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases, such as macular degeneration.
