Call for Fall 2019 CKIDS Data Science Project Proposals

CKIDS DataFest Fall 2019

Project Proposals

The new USC Center for Knowledge-Powered Interdisciplinary Data Science (CKIDS) provides opportunities to get involved in collaborative data science projects with other faculty and students across the university and with data science students in training.

In the past few months, faculty members across several schools at USC have been collaborating through CKIDS to work on joint projects through DataFest events.  In these events, faculty and senior researchers have been able to tackle new interdisciplinary topics, and engage students in computer science and other disciplines to work together to formulate interesting problems and to define joint approaches to solve them.

We invite all faculty, post-docs, or senior researchers interested in exploring new collaborations in data science to propose projects to the center for DataFest 2019.  Those involved in any USC school or department interested in working with data science students through CKIDS should submit a one-paragraph project proposal by September 12 to ckids.usc@gmail.com using this form. The projects proposed should be semester-long projects where students spend a maximum of 10 hours a week.

CKIDS will coordinate with the GRIDS data science student association to involve students in our graduate interdisciplinary data science programs. Through CKIDS and GRIDS activities, all participating students will have access to the technical support and learning opportunities that suit their project needs.  Faculty and senior researchers can then concentrate on providing high-level guidance and focus on research problems.

Projects will be selected for the CKIDS DataFest Fall 2019 program based on their educational opportunities and their interdisciplinary data science requirements. The DataFest program includes participation of computer science faculty and informatics advisors in addition to data science students.

Please check out the CKIDS DataFest site for more information.
