MISSION
CKIDS is a campus-wide organized research unit that serves as a nexus for data science collaborations across schools and departments in the university. CKIDS provides valuable methodology and resources for interdisciplinary work in data science, unique opportunities for students, and interactive forums for learning practical data science skills.
VISION
CKIDS puts forward a unique vision for data science at USC focused on incorporating diverse disciplinary knowledge into data-driven inquiry. In this view, data science connects advanced computer science research together with rich knowledge about the context and use of the data that comes from a particular expertise area or discipline.
STRATEGY
The overall strategy for CKIDS is to build on joint interdisciplinary data science programs that already involve faculty in other USC departments and schools. The co-directors of those programs and the faculty teaching courses in those programs have been the initial focus for partnerships. They have been instrumental in connecting with other faculty in their departments and schools.
