On April 13, 2021, more than 12 teams presented their semester-long data science projects advised by faculty across different USC schools as part of the CKIDSxGRIDS DataFest Fall 2020. Projects included mapping the impacts of climate change across LA county, a framework for enabling software comparison and classification, brain morphometry from contrast-enhanced T-1 weighted brain MRIs, and social graph analysis and attribution of software exploit contributors using GitHub.
Due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic situation, the final presentations and awards event was held online through a Zoom meeting. The event started with a presentation of the GRIDS data science student association.
The projects of DataFest Fall 2020 were (descriptions available here):
1. Microtelcos and the Digital Divide in CA
2. Investigating disparities in the COVID-19 epidemic in Los Angeles County through fine-grained epidemic modeling
3. Mapping the Ethical Concerns Surrounding AI Research
4. Object Detection and Classification for Street Cleanliness
5. Drought prediction in Southern California using deep learning
6. Omics and Aging in Killfish
7. Studying the Effects of Genes and Environment in Aging
8. Turning Cyber Data into Language
9. Looking at White Hat (?) Hacker Social Networks on GitHub
