Administrative Time
Time reserved for clinical paperwork, phone calls, tape review, and administrative tasks.
All Trainee Meeting
This bi-monthly meeting is attended by all trainees including social work interns, practicum counselors, psychology interns and postgraduate/postdoctoral fellows. The primary purpose of these meetings is to address the administrative business of Counseling and Mental Health and the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences, and Student health. Interns learn about the internal workings and systems issues of a the center.
Center Committee(s)
Interns have the opportunity to join an on-going or ad hoc administrative committee such as Intern Selection, Practicum Selection or campus committees, such as the Eating Disorders Treatment Team. Interns will also be asked to contribute to the Fall orientation planning committee for the next cohort.
Continuing Education
There are occasional speakers or training that occur throughout the year.
Intern Business/Research Meeting
Interns meet weekly with the Director of Training to discuss office protocol, procedural questions, professional issues, and the myriad of internship-related issues or questions that arise. As the year progresses and the need for administrative support decrease, the business meetings transition to Research Meetings where interns have the opportunity to present and discuss research articles relevant to college mental health.
Intern Process Meeting
Many intern cohorts opt to meet for weekly peer supervision and support.
Intern Selection Committee
Interns serve on the intern selection committee, with the option of later participating with the Practicum selection process. This entails providing feedback on applications, participating in interviews and assisting with the Open Houses.
Liaison with Campus Partner
Interns will learn about the collaborative demands and challenges by serving as a liaison to a campus department of their choice throughout the internship (e.g., Residential Life, Campus Cultural Centers, Office of International Students, etc.).
Social Advocacy Project
The social advocacy project, often focused on their liaison department, is intended to address mental health disparities or access to services that exist among society and various USC communities. Regarding mental health, this would include addressing vulnerabilities or barriers that different groups may face and providing advocacy and education.
Administrative Project
During the summer, interns will be invited to propose a project to enhance services based on both their experience at CMH and the prioritized needs of the center. This may include media (suggestions to the website or brochure); contributing to the referral database; or suggesting other policy enhancements. Interns will present their proposal to senior faculty/staff.
