The Center for Wellness in the Built Environment (CWBE) is an interdisciplinary research organization that conducts advanced research, generates new knowledge, and transfers developed knowledge outcomes to support the development of built environments that will enhance human physiological and environmental health, wellness, sustainability, and resiliency. The CWBE is based at the University of Southern California’s School of Architecture, but it has faculty and staff from a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, medicine, science, and economics, as well as industry professionals. While pursuing environmental resiliency for a sustainable world, the CWBE will provide a scholarly forum to promote groundbreaking study initiatives that affect environmental quality and wellbeing for building occupants.
Therefore, the CWBE will build a creative, interdisciplinary science culture to create experimental structures that enable academic research and real-world intervention to coexist. The CWBE will explore community planning as a public responsibility and as a gateway to promoting environmental sustainability, with a focus on human health, work productivity, comfort, and environmental resiliency. To that end, the CWBE will foster investigations into how tackling environmental issues will enhance wellness and wellbeing.
