Clothing During MRI
It is possible to wear your own clothing during a scan if you confirm that they consist of 100% plant-based fabrics (e.g., cotton, bamboo, hemp, etc.) and/or are metal/MRI-safe; elastic/spandex in undergarments, waistbands and cuffs are permissible if there if metal-free. Scrubs and gowns are available for your convenience and/or if you are unable to confirm the fabric make-up of your clothing.
Please be aware of the following:
Clothing should be free of fastenings (buttons, zippers, buckles, etc.) or have fastenings that are metal/magnetic-free.
Some types of clothing may contain small amounts of metal that is unsafe in the MRI environment. This includes modern athleisure wear, undergarments, and socks made with advanced or high-tech fabric. The metallic components may go by unfamiliar names and may be woven into the fabric (e.g., LuluLemon X-STATIC/Silverescent).
Undergarments and shoes may also contain metal such as underwire in bras, which is disallowed.
On the day of your scan, you will be asked to confirm that your clothing is safe for the MRI environment and meet the above guidelines.
