Motor Learning and Cognition

Ongoing project

Cognition as a moderator of motor learning post-stroke

Post-stroke cognitive impairment is common and can negatively impact progress in physical therapy. Understanding the impact of post-stroke cognitive impairment on rehabilitation strategies is critical for optimizing post-stroke walking interventions. The goal of this study is to understand how an individual’s cognitive function and brain structure may influence their ability to learn a new walking pattern. We hope to learn how people can best learn a new walking pattern when parts of the brain are damaged and cognitive function may be impaired.
