Who are we? The Intelligent, Distributed, Embedded Applications and Systems (IDEAS) research center is a research collaboration between academia (University of Southern California, Arizona State University, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale), industry (leading electronics companies throughout the world), and government (the National Science Foundation).
Research Areas: IDEAS’s research focuses on co-designing smart hardware and software that helps us engage with, communicate, and control the world around us. Intelligent and distributed applications at the edge such smart-energy grids, autonomous vehicles, and wireless networks are reliant on efficient systems and accelerated embedded computing. IDEAS conducts critical research to help further improvements in these application areas:
- High Performance Computing (HPC)
- Hardware Acceleration for AI/ML
- Compute-In-Memory
- Heterogenous Platforms: GPGPU, FPGA
What do we do? IDEAS was founded by the National Science Foundation as an industry/university cooperative research center (IUCRC) in 2023. Our center conducts cutting-edge research projects funded by industry members, the NSF, and participating universities. IDEAS serves as a collaborative powerhouse to drive innovation and advance the intelligent systems around us, laying the foundation for a connected and transformative future.
