Ram Nevatia

Ramakant Nevatia (nevatia at usc.edu) received his Ph.D. degree from Stanford University with specialty in the area of computer vision. He is currently a Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and Director of the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems at the University of Southern California. Dr. Nevatia has made important contributions to several areas of computer vision including the topics of shape description, object recognition, stereo analysis aerial image analysis, tracking of humans and event recognition. He is author of two books, several book chapters and over 150 referred technical papers. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).

Dr. Nevatia has been a principal investigator of major Government funded computer vision research programs and has been funded by agencies such as DARPA, IARPA, ONR and DoJ. His work has been cited more than 25,000 times and he has a citation h-index of 76. He has supervised more than 30 Ph.D. dissertations. His former students are employed in top companies such as Google, Facebook, IBM, Amazon, GE Research, Siemens Research, Samsung, Qualcomm and many others
