Who We Are

The Human Rights Student Interest Group (HR-SIG) is dedicated to supporting the Keck Human Rights Clinic (KHRC), an independent organization that provides forensic medical and psychological evaluations to survivors of human rights abuses seeking asylum in the United States. HR-SIG was founded in 2017 by USC-Keck medical students and the Department of Family Medicine at Keck School of Medicine of USC. The SIG is the first of its kind on the West Coast and works in collaboration with Physicians for Human Rights (PHR).

In addition, HR-SIG has launched a pilot program to provide pro-bono medical record review for cases represented by low- or pro-bono legal counsel in which an individual’s health has been affected by justice-involved human rights violations.
