Disney Concert Hall

I live in DTLA, and my usual morning running route is through olive street, up on Bunker Hill, and turn left to Grand Ave, where I can see Disney Concert Hall and the Broad Museum. I would circle around the Concert Hall multiple times before going back home and start the day.

I’ve always been fascinated by the architecture. Many times I look closely at its curves and structure , trying to figure out how it was built and what determined the look of it. Running there has brought me a lot of joy, and every time I discover something new about it.

Therefore for this project I decided to try to model the disney concert hall. I used thick vellum paper called Opalux to create the semi-transparent look. I started off trying to create the structure just based on a photo, but realize it’s a lot complicated than it seems, so I printed out a floor plan and build the structure based on the floor plan, elevation plan and 3d model I found online.

For the interaction, I put 6 lights inside of the concert hall and capped the top. I added a switch so that when it is touched, the model would light up.
