something blue

don’t worry! I’m not getting married any time soon, but I do think there is something to be said about that “something blue.”

Blue has been really significant in my family – my grandma gave me her paisley dress that I used to sleep in when I was younger, as it brought me a lot of comfort growing up, my mom wore blue a lot when she was pregnant with both me and my sister, and both women have been collecting toile plates for as long as I can remember. They have each given me blue pieces of clothing growing up and I feel as though it what connects me closely to my family.

Sewing is something that my grandmother has done for a long time – she used to sew up all my pants for me when they were too loose on me; my mom learned those skills from her and I thought it apropo for me to learn this skill and make something that symbolized the generation of women I come from. Although I don’t particularly think about having a family in the future, I do think it would be nice to make something that represents the love both my mom and my grandma have given me over the years.

My mom has an obsession with gingham and linens and so I wanted to integrate that into this vest that I made. She had to insert her opinion about what pattern she wanted, so that’s what she got!
