Love Letters

When I think about love, I think about all the different people that I’m lucky to receive it from. I was looking at the 5 love languages, trying to figure out which one I wanted to express through this assignment, and words of affirmation really stood out to me. I thought about notes my mum would leave me in my lunchbox when I was a kid, post-its that wished me good luck for my midterms left by my freshman year roommate, and even today, the small tokens of written appreciation some of my friends will scribble for me (and I for them). The feeling of an unprompted note of affection is one that warms my heart and one that I want to carry with me through the day. I decided to make a tote bag that would let me carry these notes around!

The Tote Bag:

I made this bag using lilac canvas and purple nylon webbing. This will serve as the base for the envelopes.

The Envelopes:

I drew some different compositions of the letters on the tote, thinking about the process of opening and closing it with ease. I also placed some felt on another tote bag I had to see what some of these compositions would look like.

The Envelope Closures:

I used a YouTube tutorial to crochet some hearts for the closure! As this was my first time crocheting, you can tell I needed a few tries to warm up but I’m happy with how they turned out.

The final product:

So I got up until this point ^ on Friday and thought I’d finish sewing the next week, but unfortunately fell really sick and wasn’t able to totally complete the project. This is a good approximation of the final bag, albeit with different colors (I’m using a lilac color for the envelopes)!
