Joy Journal

Something that gives me a lot of joy is making other people happy. This week I was filled with joy multiple times. However, I think the time I was filled with the greatest amount of joy was when I went to the hospital to decorate 12 rooms of sick children. This brings me so much joy because of the smiles it brings to the sick kids faces. This is so fulfilling to me because it really does light up their faces and cheers them up. It is truly amazing and so joy filling what this small action of kindness can do. My aunt and cousin started this as a non profit that is called Once Upon a Room because my cousin Josie was a Siamese twin. Therefore she has spent her whole life in and out of the hospital. My aunt noticed Josies attitude would change and would often feel better when they changed the atmosphere of the room. This week when I went to decorate rooms, a parent of a 16 year old girl made me cry. As I walked outside after decorating the young girls room, the mom followed me out and said ” I haven’t seen her face light up like that since we got here. Thank you.” Although I felt terrible and was incredibly heart broken that this girl who was only 16 had cancer there was something else in my heart that was so joyful because I knew I made an impact on someones day.
