Continuing on with the Angry Cup project, I wanted to make a Nervous Cup Holder. The idea is that the cup will now have a balanced place to rest and hold its liquid, but lifting it up will cause some nerve-racking interactions and visuals.
I modeled the outer case of the cup holder, then hollowed out the inside and poked irregular holes on the inner lining of the pyramid cup shape so that when you lift up the cup (with a magnet in it), the magnet inside the holder will seep through the hole and be lifted up like a volcano.
Initially, after the resin print came out, I realized that the holes I made were too small that the magnet powder for sure wouldn’t come through, So I drilled bigger holes to make it easier for the powder to come out. Then I glued the magnet bars to the inside of the cup.
Then after I poured the magnet powder in, I placed the cup in the holder. Yay! The angry cup no longer fails to stand on its own.
But wait a minute, every time I lift it up to drink something, there’s lots of black powder that creeps through the holes?
