For my project I made a bucket hat. This hat elicts the emotion of love through its intention. I designed and created this hat for someone w cancer undergoing treatment. As winter wraps up and summer around the corner I wanted to create something for those undergoing treatment that could still keep them warm but also protect them from the sun. I chose to use the material canvas on the instead so that ones head would not get too hot. However, by layering a knit layer on top of the hat extra warmth added. I chose a “DIY style” because one way people show their love for one another is through making gifts for one another. For the process of my project I knit the entire outer hat. I used 3 color yarns. After having the tube I closed the top. Then, I took the “beanie like hat and I sewed it to a a bucket. Lastly, I attached the piece of leather engraved saying “made to love”.
I chose the phrase “made to love”, as I made this project with love and care for others in my heart. Furthermore, I want to remind those with undergoing treatment that they are not alone and they are loved regardless of what they are going through. Sometimes when you are going through the midst of so much pain a simple reminder that such as someone doing something nice for you can really make you feel loved.
Watching two grandparents, who I love so much, undergo several rounds of cancer treatment inspired me. While they were going through treatment it was really hard for me as I love to help people. Even though I was not able to show them love my creating this hat for them, I am excited to show this love to someone.
