Dr. Saito received his medical and PhD degree from the Showa University, School of Medicine, Tokyo Japan. Subsequently he completed internal medicine and gastroenterology training at Showa University affiliated hospitals. He received postdoctoral training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (Microbiology) and the University of Washington (Immunology). He served as an instructor in immunology at the University of Washington until joining to University of Southern California (USC). He has been appointed as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2010 and promoted to an Associate Professor of Medicine with Tenure in 2018. Dr. Saito laboratory’s research focuses to understand the interaction between human liver disease and innate immune program with an ultimate goal to improve our management strategy against emerging infectious and metabolic liver diseases. Here at USC, he serves as a mentor in the Graduate Program (PIBBS) and engages a variety of teaching activities such as medical school, undergraduate, master programs.
