American Burn Association 2024

The Southern California Burn Model System (SCBMS) and its multi-disciplinary burn team participated in the 2024 American Burn Association Annual meeting in Chicago, Illinois. Our team took part in presenting posters, a sunrise symposium, educational and podium presentations in distinct categories and topics.

There were 18 total presentations consisting of posters, educational/ podium sessions, and sunrise symposium from our USC multi-disciplinary burn team.

The SCBMS Project Director, Dr. Yenikomshian and collaborators, presented the educational symposium titled, “Redefining Burn Disability: Current Challenges and New Concepts.”

The poster titled, “Adults with Head and Neck Burns Have Worse Long-Term Psychological Outcomes” with authors Deborah Choe, BS, Kara McMullen, MPH, Barclay T. Stewart, MD, Karen Kowalske, MD, Jeffrey C. Schneider, MD,
Colleen M. Ryan, MD, Lewis E. Kazis, Sc.D, Caitlin M. Orton, MPH, and Haig A. Yenikomshian, MD, won for best in category.

In addition, “The When, Where, and How of Pediatric Burn Injury: An Assessment of 8 Years of Admissions to a Regional Burn Center,” with authors Erin E. Ross BS, Elizabeth Flores BA, Paige K.D. Zachary MD, and Haig A. Yenikomshian MD, was the winner of the Shiners/ABA Best Pediatric Burn Paper Award.
