Burn Model System (BMS)
The Burn Model System program began in 1994, with funding from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR).
The BMS program conducts research to improve care and outcomes for people with burn injuries. The BMS includes clinical centers that provide a coordinated and multidisciplinary system of rehabilitation care, including emergency medical, acute medical, post-acute, and long-term follow-up services. Each of these centers conducts research and contributes data to the BMS National database.
Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Regional Burn Center
The LAC+USC Regional Burn center is committed to providing world-class comprehensive, compassionate, innovative care to patients. The Burn Center has 10 intensive care isolation beds, 10 acute beds, a dedicated operating room, experienced occupational and physical therapists and a 24-hr emergency evaluation clinic for the care of burn patients.
National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)
NIDILRR is a Center within the Administration for Community Living (ACL), Department of health and Human Services (HHS). NIDILRR grant number 90DPBU0007. This center is a federal government grant-making agency that provides support in promoting the use and adoption of new disability and rehabilitation knowledge. The goals of this center is to improve the abilities of people with disabilities to perform activities of their choice the community, and to expand society’s ability to provide opportunities and accommodations for these individuals.
