Health insurance ensures that students have access to the services they need beyond the primary care provided through USC Student Health.
The USC Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP, provided through Aetna) is a comprehensive national plan that covers a broad range of health care expenses outside of primary care. The plan year starts shortly before the start of fall classes each August, and extends for 365 days. Student Health leadership take pride in ensuring that the plan adapts to the evolving coverage needs of USC students, while remaining competitively priced to offer high value for your health care dollars.
- Insurance coverage ensures that students have access to additional care outside of USC Student Health primary care services, such as longer-term mental health visits, visits to urgent care centers after hours, specialist visits, surgery/hospitalization coverage, as well as prescription coverage and vision care.

- World-renowned care, national coverage: Tier 1 includes USC Designated Preferred Care providers (Keck Medicine of USC, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Good Samaritan Hospital, Las Encinas, The Haven@ College) at 90% coverage. Tier 2, all Aetna Preferred Care providers, are at 80% coverage.
