Assistant Professor in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Dartmouth College

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Dartmouth College invites applications for a full-time tenure-trackAssistant Professorship in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics starting in July 2022. Qualified candidates will complement and expand existing efforts – both within the department and potentially other departments at Dartmouth –  by establishing a vigorous research program, demonstrating a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and supporting a diverse student body. The Department of Physics and Astronomy presently has about 20 faculty members and 50 PhD students, with research interests in astronomy, cosmology, particle and gravitational physics, space and plasma physics, quantum information science, atomic and molecular, and condensed matter physics. We are seeking candidates in the general area of quantum many-body and strongly correlated systems, with special emphasis on the growing interface between condensed-matter, atomic physics, and quantum information science, and on computational many-body techniques. Applicants should be able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first-generation college graduates. Faculty will have opportunities to participate in undergraduate diversity initiatives in STEM research, such as our Women in Science Program, E. E. Just STEM Scholars Program, and Academic Summer Undergraduate Research Experience. For more information about our department, see https://physics.dartmouth.edu/. A diversity statement is required, where applicants should address how their research, teaching, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. A PhD in Physics (or a related field) is required, along with postdoctoral experience and a strong record of published research.
