Research Associate in Applications and Architecture of Quantum Computers, Imperial College, London

We are seeking to appoint two Research Associates to work on the applications and/or architecture of quantum computers. The posts are funded jointly by the UK Quantum Hub on Quantum Computing and Simulation and the EPSRC Skills Hub in Quantum Systems Engineering.

Job Summary

Duties and responsibilities

The main task of the successful candidates s 1) to use noisy-intermediate-scale hardware of quantum computers to tackle real-world problems in science and technology and/or 2) to investigate optimum structures of a quantum computer for applications with limited resources. The duties will include identifying concrete problems, developing new algorithms and implementation schemes for quantum simulations and algorithms. The successful candidates will work closely with partners at the Hub, attending the Hub meetings and workshops, as well as the dedicated research group led by Professor Myungshik Kim at Imperial College London.

Essential requirements

You must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Quantum Chemistry, Quantum Simulations/Architecture or Quantum Information and Quantum Algorithms

You must also meet the following essential criteria.

  • Commensurate with experience, a strong record of research delivery and publications in at least one of the above areas, as well as a strong interest and the ability to learn about the others.
  • Proven expertise in programming and numerical methods for quantum many-body systems, quantum chemistry or quantum information.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Existing experience with quantum simulation / quantum architecture is highly beneficial.

  • Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 – £38,566 per annum.
