The NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institute for Robust Quantum Simulation (https://rqs.umd.edu) seeks exceptional candidates for the RQS Postdoctoral Fellowship. The Institute is led by the University of Maryland and also includes members at Duke, Princeton, North Carolina State, and Yale Universities. Institute researchers use quantum simulation to gain insight into and take advantage of the rich behavior of complex quantum systems. Work at the Institute includes experimental and theoretical investigations of both analog and digital quantum simulation, and is organized into three major research challenges: verified quantum simulations, the interaction of quantum simulators with their environments, and scalable quantum simulations for science and technology. The Institute also works to train a quantum-capable workforce through various education and outreach programs.
RQS Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to work in close collaboration with one or ideally more than one senior investigator in the Institute. Successful applicants may focus on any topic related to quantum simulation, experimental or theoretical, and will have opportunities to collaborate with researchers at all of the member universities. Applicants are encouraged to review the recent work of Institute senior investigators and to contact them directly to inquire about possible collaboration. Candidates from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
The term of appointment is two years with the possibility of extension for a third year, with a competitive salary plus benefits and a small stipend for research expenses. The application deadline for full consideration is December 1, 2021, but applications may be considered until the positions are filled. Applicants should submit a Curriculum Vitae including a complete publication list and a two-page Research Statement, and should arrange for three reference letters. Applications should be submitted through AcademicJobsOnline at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19910.
