Debt Management

Mr. Aguayo oversees the University’s $1.6 billion debt portfolio. This includes developing financing and liquidity strategies, managing capital market activities, and debt compliance administration. Prior to joining USC, Mr. Aguayo worked as an investment banker and consultant serving municipal clients throughout the State of California. Mr. Aguayo was also previously employed by the City of Long Beach, California where he was instrumental in managing the City’s multi-billion debt program.

Mr. Aguayo earned an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills. He is a Certified Treasury Professional, and successfully passed FINRA licenses Series 7, 52, and 63.

Mr. Aguayo is a member of the Board of Governors for the Long Beach City College Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Director’s for the Community Development YMCA of Greater Long Beach – Youth Institute. In 2012, Mr. Aguayo was honored with the distinguished Humanitarian Award by the Long Beach Community Hispanic Association. In 2016, Mr. Aguayo was also recognized by the Long Beach Post and Mayor of Long Beach as a “40 under 40” honoree for his extraordinary achievements and devotion to the community.

Richard Mariscal has leadership and oversight of the University’s Merchant Services and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance programs. This includes supporting 50 merchants across the University and Health System that process over four million transactions, totaling approximately $700 million. Mr. Mariscal also administers USC’s annual PCI compliance audit consisting of merchant audit preparation, on-site inspections, and education and training.

Mr. Mariscal has over 22 years of audit compliance, royalties, and trademark licensing experience. Prior to joining USC, Mr. Mariscal served as a compliance and audit manager for SRS Labs, Inc. (a publicly traded technology company) where he led audit compliance programs that recovered over $3.5 million of underreported revenue from global licensees. Mr. Mariscal previously worked at Universal Music Group and Moss Adams LLP, performing contract compliance audits, profit participation engagements, and financial due diligence in connection with litigation and intellectual property related matters for Fortune 500 companies.

Mr. Mariscal earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from California State University, Los Angeles. He resides in the Los Angeles area with his two children and enjoys coaching their soccer teams.

Karissa Castellanos, Treasury Analyst

Karissa Castellanos is the Treasury Analyst and a recent graduate of USC Viterbi School of Engineering earning her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Master of Science in Financial Engineering. Her current goals are to attain the Certified Treasury Professional designation and be a major contributor to the success of Treasury and the University.

Prior to joining the USC Treasury team, Karissa served as a research assistant in an on-campus research lab studying composite materials. She managed various projects exploring a wide range of topics, from the effects an imposed thermal gradient has on a carbon fiber part quality to the effects surface treatments have on bond adhesion. What she enjoyed most was being hands-on: manufacturing parts, gathering data, and analyzing the data to determine trends.

As her background suggests, Karissa has many interests. She enjoys baking, trying new things, and learning. In her free time, Karissa tutors middle-school through college aged students in mathematics and provides study help in all other subjects. To relax, she enjoys going to dinner and spending time with her husband.

Being raised in a family of Trojan football fans, she is now living her dream as a USC alumna. Fight On!

Robenil Crisostomo, Treasury Manager

Robenil (Rob) Crisostomo is USC’s Treasury Manager where he is responsible for managing the University’s daily liquidity and reporting of net cash to management. Rob is lead client support resolving inquiries from all major cash stakeholders (accounts payable, payroll and receivables) and is security liaison for all commercial bank internet portals. Prior to joining USC, Rob spent 12 years at Ingram Micro Inc., a global software/technology equipment company as Cash Manager with responsibilities in treasury management for North America and Asia. Prior to Ingram Micro Inc., Rob spent 4 years at Merisel Inc. as a Treasury/Tax Analyst managing the daily cash operations and state tax audits. He has more than 15 years of treasury experience.

Rob earned an undergraduate degree in Finance from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Outside of USC, Rob practices service to others by devoting time in children’s ministry and teaching for twenty plus years at his church, located in Los Alamitos. Rob also enjoys traveling and sightseeing with his wife and three children. His weekly highlight and joy is coaching his children’s teams and teammates in their many sports activities. As an avid sports fan, Rob loves to attend and support all the local Pro and College teams. Go Lakers! Fight On!
