Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Images

 

After a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) impact on one side of the mouse head, human amyloid beta (Aβ) is injected into the brain three days later. The brain is then sliced extremely thinly for analysis.

 

The mTBI brain exhibits enlarged perivascular space in comparison to a brain that did not experience any impact.

 

Aβ pathology is exacerbated in mTBI-impacted brain.

 

Cerebral blood flow is more efficient in the brain before mTBI than three days after (when concussion has resolved).

 

In mTBI-impacted cortical areas, there are more perivascular deposits of Immunoglobulin G (IgG), the most common antibody found in blood circulation. This suggests blood brain barrier (BBB) breakdown.
