DataFest Spring 2021 Final Presentations and Awards Event
On April 13, 2021, more than 12 teams presented their semester-long data science projects advised by faculty across different USC schools as part of the CKIDSxGRIDS DataFest Fall 2020. Projects included mapping the impacts of climate change across LA county, a framework for enabling software comparison and classification, brain morphometry from contrast-enhanced T-1 weighted brain MRIs, and social graph analysis and attribution of software exploit contributors using GitHub.

DataFest Spring 2020 Final Presentations and Awards Event
More than sixty students participated in semester-long data science projects advised by faculty across different USC schools as part of the CKIDSxGRIDS DataFest Fall 2919. Projects included participating in a data challenge for tracking the progression of Parkinson’s Disease, integrating data to analyze global trends in climate, understanding human behavior through online game data, characterizing cybersecurity tools, and analyzing diversity in authorship of scientific publications.

DataFest Fall 2019 Final Presentations and Awards Event
Twenty semester-long data science projects were presented by more than sixty students advised by faculty across different USC schools as part of the CKIDSxGRIDS DataFest Fall 2919. Projects included integrating environmental data from Catalina Island, analyzing nutritional habits with Instagram data, modeling social networks through online game data, adjusting building comfort measures through biosignals, mining side effects in cancer treatment, finding patterns in global climate data, visualizing cultural biases, mapping LA crime data, and detecting deep fakes.

Open call for CKIDS data science project proposals: DataFest Fall 2019
Proposals for semester-long data science projects are solicited from faculty for CKIDS DataFest Fall 2019. Students will learn practical data science skills by working with CKIDS faculty and advisors, and will be supported by the GRIDS graduate students association through office hours and tutorial sessions.

2019 CKIDS Data Science Summer Symposium
CKIDS held a Data Science Summer Symposium to highlight interdisciplinary data science projects started in the Spring 2019 DataFest that continued over the Summer. The Symposium opened with a presentation by CKIDS Director Yolanda Gil titled “A Summer of Data Science across Four Continents.” Learn more here.

DataFest Spring 2019 Final Presentations and Awards Event
For the Spring 2019 DataFest event, CKIDS selected five project themes that created unique opportunities for students to learn practical data science in an interdisciplinary context. Each project was set up as a “quad”, consisting of a faculty from a given discipline (environmental studies, communication, biomedicine, etc) and one of their students, and a data science faculty and student.

First CKIDS Event: Spring 2019 DataFest
CKIDS kicked off with DataFest Spring 2019, bringing together faculty from interdisciplinary data science programs at USC to create joint collaborative projects.
