The Reading Beyond Words Conference is a one-night event to discuss the Reading Beyond Words program, designed and researched as a result of a US Department of Education Jacob Javits Grant.
Reading Beyond Words motivates and extends the reading interests and abilities of Kindergarten through fourth-grade students by introducing and expanding the concept of reading. The primary objective of the program is to introduce teachers to lessons that include and focus on reading the environment such as landscapes, reading characters by reading faces and behaviors, and reading objects and sounds. The Reading Beyond Words curriculum has been developed to stimulate students to enjoy the skill of reading and to perceive themselves as “readers” as they enjoy “reading everything everywhere.”
This course is offered to applicants with no cost to participants.
