EQUIPMENT
Instrumented Treadmill and Three-dimensional Motion Capture. This system is a 10-camera Qualisys Oqus 5 passive marker motion capture system and a custom-made Woodway split-belt treadmill instrumented with vertical load cells to detect heel strikes with a 64 channel A/D board and data collection computer. The motion capture system provides a capture volume of ~672 cubic feet and is fully capable of sampling data at frequencies well above what is needed for this proposal (100Hz). A safety harness with a weight capacity of 600lbs is ceiling-mounted above the treadmill to ensure patient safety.
Visual Display. The lab contains a 55” television screen placed in front of the treadmill that interfaces with the data collection computer to display visual biofeedback of gait performance.
Clinical Assessments. Directly next door to the space dedicated to gait analysis, is a room that is ideal for clinical assessments of motor and cognitive impairments. It contains a Hi-Lo table, equipment for the full Fugl-Meyer assessment, Berg, Balance Scale, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, the Repeatable Battery for Neuropsychological Status, sensory testing, and demographic questionnaires. This room also provides a quiet area for study consent.
Additional Equipment. A ceiling mounted XY gantry overhead safety harness system that covers the motion capture volume, two PolarTM heart rate monitors that are Bluetooth-enabled and a digital tablet with the FitDigitsTM application that continuously records heart rate data throughout experiments.
Software. Qualisys Track Manager, Visual 3D, Vizard, Matlab, OpenSim, Microsoft Office, SPSS, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Adobe Illustrator.
