Southern California Healthcare Delivery Science (HDS) Center is proud to present our upcoming Annual Healthcare DESCIPHER Symposium, which will take place on October 28, 2024, at the California Endowment in Los Angeles. We anticipate more than 100 attendees, bringing together leading healthcare executives, physicians, researchers, patient groups, academics, and clinical trial professionals to develop disruptive innovations to transform healthcare delivery.

Michael Cousineau, Dr.PH
Successes and Challenges in Policy Efforts to Address the Determinants of Health and Achieve Equity
Michael R. Cousineau, Dr.PH is emeritus professor at the Keck School of Medicine of USC in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences. He received his doctorate in Public Health from the UCLA, was the founding executive director of the Los Angeles Homeless Health Care Project. He was an early faculty at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. Later he became a policy specialist at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services where he implemented the first LA Health Survey a population-based survey measuring the health of Los Angeles County population which continues today. He has been a member of the USC faculty since 1996. His research focused on policy interventions to expand health insurance coverage, the effectiveness of outreach and enrollment systems, and the operation of safety-net providers. He has studied the impact of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and other policy changes for vulnerable populations including the unhoused, transitional age youth and immigrants. He has conducted several multi-level evaluations of community health initiatives including the California Healthy Kids initiative, and the Skid Row Health Initiative in central Los Angeles. He has been funded by several private and public agencies including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and NIH. He taught health policy at the School Medicine at USC for over 20 years. He has over 100 publications in health policy and research. He currently is a member of the Los Angeles Hospital and Health Care Delivery Commission, and the advisory board for The California Physicians’ Alliance.
