This design-research stream incorporates living media within scaffolds, substrates, and structures that could yield and support bioreactive, metabolic and regenerative habitats. Such living prototypes harness environmentally responsive and performative behaviors for passive cooling and shading, filtering carbon, reducing noise, converting light into biomass, and beyond, utilizing circular processes and materials.
