We are a group of researchers in the Signal and Image Processing Institiute, Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering, USC. Our research focuses on optics and machine learning for perception.
Our research activities include the application of pattern recognition and machine learning to 3D visual data as well as 2D color and infrared image data. We have developed autonomous systems that recognize objects, that classify ships from pictures, and that manipulate 3D image data in interesting and useful ways.
In optics, we have invented techniques for using optics in computation and information processing hardware, for neural network computation, and for biologically inspired vision operations. Most recently, we have developed ways of cascading diffractive elements to create multiple image planes in 3D space.
