Opportunities

Postdoctoral Position in Tumor Immunology

The Roussos Torres lab seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to study tumor immunology in breast cancer the Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology at the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern California (USC).

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in tumor biology and immunology research using preclinical models to investigate the tumor microenvironment and to study response to therapy. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with mouse models and flow cytometry.

These projects will be conducted as part of the broader projects investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing the suppressive tumor microenvironment (especially with regard to myeloid cell suppression), T cell activation and cytotoxic function. The postdoctoral fellow will also have the opportunity to conduct translational research using samples derived from patients in a well-mentored environment and work with collaborators in the department of translational genomics at this NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center.

Requirements:

  • PhD in immunology, cancer biology, molecular biology, biomedical science or a related field.
  • Problem-solving skills and independence.
  • The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Recommendations:

  • Proficiency in flow cytometry and other immunologic techniques such as ELISAs and analysis software such as FloJo/ Kaluza.
  • Experience with mouse models of cancer- orthotopic and transgenic mouse models
  • Experience with protocol development and implementation for single cell technologies.
  • Familiarity with computer programs: Microsoft Office, FloJo OR Kaluza for flow analysis, Prism GraphPad, HALO

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter describing the reason for their interest and fit to the position requirements, their CV, and names and contact information of three references to evanthia.roussostorres@med.usc.edu.

Student Research Opportunities

The Roussos Torres lab seeks highly motivated students (Graduate-Masters/PhD,  Residents, Medical Students, Undergraduates) to study tumor immunology in breast cancer. Students will have the opportunity to learn about tumor biology and immunology research using preclinical models to investigate the tumor microenvironment and to study response to therapy. Students will be exposed to a variety of different techniques depending on their project/ interests and time commitment which include: in vivo studies of novel drug combinations performed in mouse models, flow cytometry, western blotting, qPCR, cell culture, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, imaging mass cytometry. These projects will be conducted as part of the broader projects investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing the suppressive tumor microenvironment (especially with regard to myeloid cell suppression and tumor associated macrophages), T cell activation and cytotoxic function. The students may also have the opportunity to conduct translational research using samples derived from patients.

Interested applicants should email Dr. Roussos Torres at evanthia.roussostorres@med.usc.edu
