Pregnancy Prevention (Emergency Contraceptives)
If you have had unprotected sex, you can still take steps to prevent pregnancy and potential infection.
Plan B, the emergency contraception combination pill, can be obtained at the 24-hour pharmacy vending machine on the UPC campus. The location is in the ground floor lobby of King Hall. The pill works best if taken within the first three days of unprotected sex.
It is also available at retail pharmacies, and through Planned Parenthood.
STI Prevention
If you may have been exposed to STIs from unprotected sex, you can still protect yourself by obtaining PEP (post exposure prophylaxis) medication to prevent HIV infection, and courses of antibiotics to prevent other sexually transmitted infections. Contact Student Health as soon as possible to discuss treatment with a medical professional.
Sexual Assault or Suspected Assault
If you have been exposed to potential infection through a sexual assault, or suspect you may have been assaulted while unconscious, contact Student Health at 213-740-9355 (WELL) and ask to be connected to a confidential advocate. The advocate can arrange transportation to a specialized center where you can receive immediate medical attention and a forensic exam; the advocate will stay with you the whole time, and can provide you with information about your reporting options.
