Brains @ Play Neurotech Competition

The Brains@Play Neurotech Competition concluded with Space Parkour taking home first prize! A $5,000 SMART-VR/Enosis sponsored grand prize was awarded to develop a VR+Neurotech+Health game prototype.

Twenty talented teams joined us for this event, making the first competition held by Brains@Play a great success. Thank you to all our participants for their wonderful work, and we hope to see you again at future events!

SMART-VR Community Showcase Follow-Up:

Thank you for attending for our first ever SMART-VR Community Showcase! We have now posted all of the content from the showcase (both 360 videos and talks/discussion recordings) on our Youtube playlist:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7C441NHwb0CrzRBPIbKQvgpiPZFNPP_Z

This USC SMART-VR Community Showcase playlist includes:

  • 360 demos of experiences and environments described in the talks
  • Additional 360 Youtube experiences that we thought you might enjoy (nature, space, travel, and art)
  • Regular (2D) videos describing some of the experiences, as well as the SMART-VR virtual reality app
  • Video recordings of the lightning talks by Drs. Rizzo, Finley, Liew, Pa, and Ard
  • Video recording of the intro and discussion

VR/360 Experiences at Home: You can use your SMART-VR VR Cardboard headset with any of the Youtube videos that have a “360” notation on them. Simply load the playlist on your phone (using the Youtube app), click the video you want to view in 360, click the small VR icon in the lower right-hand corner, and place your phone into the cardboard headset. A brief tutorial of how to use your phone with the VR headset is included in our SMART-VR app video (the Youtube interface will look slightly different, but the general principle is the same). To exit VR mode, click the small X in the upper left corner. You can also view 360 videos by panning your phone (without a headset) or on a computer by clicking and dragging the screen to move it around.

AR Experiences at Home: You can try out the Schol-AR augmented reality app by downloading this flyer. Simply point your phone’s camera at the QR code on the front, which will prompt you to download Schol-AR. Then, open the Schol-AR app and point it at the same QR code to load the flyer contents. On the first page, you will see a 3D interactive brain model appear that you can rotate and resize. On the second page, you will see animations of videos. You can create your own scientific AR augmentations by going to the Schol-AR website and entering beta code: SMARTVR and you can find more info about creating your own augmentations here.
