Keck Hospital of USC is the only living donor liver transplant program in southern California. In 2021 and 2022, we performed 36 and 34 LDLTs, respectively.
At Children’s Hospital of LA, we have a high-volume pediatric program. We perform more than 30 pediatric liver transplants per year.
USC fellows have unrivaled exposure to open, laparoscopic, and robotic HPB surgery at Keck Hospital of USC, which has been designated a Center of Excellence for Pancreatitis and Pancreatic Cancer by the National Pancreas Foundation.
We have the privilege of treating very challenging patients. In the first table below, the SRTR database shows that our center’s liver transplant recipients — compared to other centers in our region as well as the nation — have a higher MELD and are more likely to be in the ICU at time of transplant.
We maintain great outcomes, regardless of how sick our recipients are at time of transplant. Per the SRTR database, the percentage of liver transplant patients alive with a functioning transplant at 1 year is 94.0% at Keck Hospital of USC, compared to 91.7%, the U.S. national average.
