The goal of this MURI project is to marry the functionalities arising from dipolar textures to optically and electrically active electronic materials such as semiconductors and electronic phase change materials. This will be studied in two platforms: (a) artificial heterostructures of perovskite ferroelectric oxides and chalcogenide electronic materials (perovskite and layered), and (b) quasi-1D hexagonal chalcogenides with intrinsic polar textures. We anticipate that these unique textures and chiral properties can lead to emergent electronic and photonic properties for applications in sensing, communication, and computing.
