Research Topics

Thrust 1: Mechanisms to interface polar textures and electronic materials.

In this thrust, we will develop theoretical methods to model and predict material structures that will show polar textures interfaced with electronic materials. The team has broad expertise in methods ranging from first principles calculations to phenomenological modeling to solve this problem.

Thrust 2: Synthesis, and characterization of heterostructures hosting polar textures.

In this thrust, we will develop synthetic and fabrication tools to grow large single crystals of chalcogenides to heterostructures of oxide and chalcogenide materials. The team possesses deep expertise in the growth, fabrication and characterization of these materials.

Thrust 3: Creation, destruction and manipulation of polar textures and their properties.

In this thrust, we will use cutting edge spectroscopic and scanning probe techniques to study the polar vortices in electronic materials. The team has significant expertise in ultrafast spectroscopy, and a broad range of scanning probe microscopic techniques to manipulate and control polar vortices in both nanoscale spatial and ultrafast temporal dimensions.
