NSF and Support of Research by Architects | |
Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Bank is an Adjunct in the Grove School of Engineering at the City College of New York (CCNY) and a part-time Project Director at the Research Foundation of the City University of New York (RFCUNY). He retired from his fulltime position in the Department of Civil Engineering in the Grove School of Engineering in November 2017. From 2014-2015 he served as a Program Director in the Materials Engineering and Processing (MEP) at the US National Science Foundation. From 2010 to 2013 he was the Associate Provost and then Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs at The City College of New York. From 2008 to 2010, he was the Program Director for Structural Materials and Mechanics (SMM) at the US National Science Foundation while on leave from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Bank received his BSc degree from the Technion in Israel in 1980, and his MS and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University in New York City in 1982 and 1985, respectively. Prior to this (1975 to 1976), Dr. Bank studied in the Schools of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. | |

Dr. Wang received a Ph.D. in Architecture from Texas A&M University and Dr. Eng. in Building Physics from Tianjin University. He has recently joined the Penn State University as an Associate Professor. Prior to this, he worked at the University of Cincinnati, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Missouri S&T, and Tsinghua University. Supported by NSF, NIST, DOE, EPA, and AIA, his research projects focus on interdisciplinary applications of building physics in sustainable, healthy, and interactive building environments. His research work has been recognized with several awards, including the NSF CAREER, IES Richard Kelly, and EPA P3. Additionally, he serves on the Editorial Board of the TAD journal and the committee of several international organizations and conferences. | |

Sustainability Research for Cutting Edge Practice | |
Vivian is a University Professor and former Head of the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University. She is an internationally renowned researcher, author, and educator with over thirty years of focus on environmental design and sustainability, advanced building systems integration, climate and regionalism in architecture, and design for performance in the workplace of the future. She has served on ten National Academy of Science (NAS) panels, the NAS Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment and has given four Congressional testimonies on sustainability. Vivian is a recipient of the National Educator Honor Award from the AIAS and the Sacred Tree Award from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). She received her BS and MS in Architecture from MIT and served on the National Boards of the USGBC, AIA Committee on the Environment, Green Building Alliance, Turner Sustainability, and the Global Assurance Group of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. She is a registered architect and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. | |

Jaeyoung is a licensed architect widely experienced in all phase of design on various types of projects and his practical experience was gained over the past 15 years in the US and S. Korea by collaborating and contributing to a wide range of assignments ranging from real estate feasibility studies and facility master planning to construction documentation, and a variety of complex projects including residential, cultural, educational, commercial, healthcare and urban planning and design. Before joining Fulcrum, Jaeyoung has Design-Build related experience (CMConstruction Management) in real estate and involved estimating the overall bidding process toward school, governmental, and commercial projects. As a project manager with Fulcrum Jaeyoung’s responsibilities includes Plan and Cost Reviews, Construction Draw Review Services and Construction Management. | |

Dr. Tinianov 25 year career has been dedicated to product innovation and commercialization in the field of energy efficiency and building technology. Throughout his career he has been actively involved aspects of research and testing, authoring national and international standards, and national policies relating to building materials and systems. He currently serves as the View’s VP of Industry Strategy where he leads their value-based product strategy and industry engagement. Prior to joining View, Brandon was the Chief Technology Officer at Serious Energy for 7 years. Prior to Serious, he was the program lead for the Building Sciences Platform of Excellence at Johns Manville. Brandon has managed multiple nationally accredited labs including laboratories for acoustic, fire-testing, heat transfer, and physical properties. Brandon is a member of the National Advisory Council of the US Green Building Council. He has a Ph.D. in Engineering Systems from the Colorado School of Mines and is a registered Professional Engineer and LEED Accredited Professional. He has 28 issued patents. |
