This company specializes in aluminum anodizing, chemical film, and aluminum and stainless steel polishing to customers nationwide. The company faced increasing competition from lower cost foreign competition. These competitive pressures resulted in a 20% decrease in annual sales and a 38% decrease in employment before certification in the TAAF Program.
The company, with assistance from the University of Southern California’s Western Trade Adjustment Assistance Center (Western TAAC) became certified as trade impacted by the US Dept. of Commerce, Economic Development Administration(EDA) at the end of 2009. Western TAAC and the company’s management developed a strategy to position itself as a leading metal anodize treatment provider that focused on customers requiring higher quality anodizing and quick order turns with ISO 9002:2008, AS9100 and Nadcap Aerospace certifications.
During 2010 to 2014, Western TAAC provided $22,300 in matching funds for the successful implementation of one quality management system project and one production engineering project. Since beginning its public/private sector partnership with the TAA for Firms Program, overall sales increased by 2% to $1.5M and employment increased 27% to 19 employees since certification.
