Beyond its well-known impacts on emotion and spirit, music also has a profound ability to support physical healing.
Musician in Residence Programming
Music touches all aspects of our lives – physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral.
The Music Infusion program is being piloted among adolescents and young adults with cancer in collaboration with AYA@USC and utilizes Active Music Engagement (AME) to reduce anxiety and stress, integrate body and mind, and provide a creative outlet for patients to express themselves.
Two professional musicians work with each patient to create an original song, composition or original cover of a favorite song over 4-6 Music Infusion virtual sessions and 1-2 in person recording sessions.
The AME process engages the patient in a dialogic interactive music experience with songwriters and composers. There are three stages to the Music Infusion experience:
1) Introduction and Project Planning: getting to know the patient, their goals for the project, musical preferences and background
2) Music Immersion: imagining, creating, and reviewing the unique music composition
3) Creative Synthesis: finalizing the music composition, sound levels and mixing to produce a master track in digital form
