Submission Directions:

Find the three abstract categories in the section below: Workshops, Innovations, and Cool Ideas or Works-in-Progress. Click on the link below the category title to access more information. Click here for a list of suggested topics for Innovations and Cool Ideas or Works-in-Progress.

Submission Rules include:

    • Abstracts may not include any figures or tables.
    • All abstracts must adhere to the character limit for each section (limits include spaces).
    • For Student Submissions: We welcome submissions about Cool Ideas or Works-in-Progress or Innovations (with data) from student groups. However, each project must have a faculty mentor. Include any faculty mentor names in the complete author list for the abstract and enter an asterisk (*) before each mentor name.

Hints for the Submission Process:

    • Please ensure you have the final proposal, all author information, and biosketches ready BEFORE you begin the online submission process.
    • You will NOT be able to save and return to an incomplete submission. All submissions are final.
    • If you need to make changes to your already submitted proposals, you may do so by starting a new submission process. If we find multiple submissions with the same abstract title, we will use the most recent one as the submission for review.
    • Although you can type your abstract directly into the online submission form, we strongly recommend copying and pasting it from a word processing document.
    • IMPORTANT: Count characters, including spaces, before copying and pasting into the submission form text boxes. If you paste too many characters, the text will be cut off mid-word at the character maximum.

The 2026 IME Online Conference is seeking abstract submissions in the following categories:

1. Innovations with at least pilot data. You must include outcome data in the submission.
Click here for more information and to submit your abstract.

This category represents completed innovative educational research, curricular interventions (including pilot, initial implementation, and multiple implementations), and quality improvement projects that are transferable to other programs or institutions. Research studies should be grounded in a theoretical framework and present study results. Curricular innovations should be grounded in sound learning principles and designed to address a specific local or national need. Innovations typically have program evaluation data at multiple levels (e.g., reaction, learning, behavior, and impact). The abstract must include data to demonstrate the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of the innovation.

Student submissions are welcome, but the author list must include a faculty mentor, indicated by an asterisk (*) preceding their name.

Most authors will present their innovations in a virtual poster session; however, the authors of the top abstracts (based on the evaluation criteria) will present their work in an oral presentation session.

2. Cool Ideas or Works-in-Progress without outcome data by the submission deadline.
Click here for more information and to submit your abstract.

This category embraces a broad range of creative ideas for educational interventions and quality improvement projects. All projects must be grounded in sound learning principles and designed to address a specific need. In this category, Cool Ideas are projects preparing for implementation, while Works-in-Progress are typically in the process of being implemented but do not yet have data to report.

Student submissions are welcome, but the author list must include a faculty mentor, indicated by an asterisk (*) preceding their name.

Most authors will present their Cool Ideas or Works-in-Progress in a virtual poster session; however, the top abstracts (based on the evaluation criteria) will present their work in an oral presentation session and receive an award for Best of Cool Ideas.

3. Interactive Skill-Building Workshops
Submission deadline has passed.

A faculty member or administrator must be the lead author for every workshop. All workshops will be delivered online using Zoom. Plan for a 75-minute time slot. Skill-building workshops should include interactive small-group activities and be designed specifically for medical educators. The presenting team should have at least one proficient member or an expert in the topic of the session who should reflect this expertise in their biosketch. Review the evaluation criteria for workshop submissions.
