The health and well-being of student-athletes are the highest priority of the Athletic Medicine Department, that includes renowned providers in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic medicine, sports medicine departments of the Keck School of Medicine of USC; athletic training; acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage therapy, nursing care, nutrition, physical therapy and other medical specialties, all credentialed through Keck Medicine of USC.

As an integrated team within USC Student Health, part of Keck Medicine of USC, the Athletic Medicine program is a part of every USC Athletics team sport, including practices, games, and everything in between.

Athletic Medicine provides all aspects of student athlete care, from routine physicals, to injury prevention and care, post-game recovery, orthopedic medicine specialist care, therapies, and nutrition services. 



Leadership Profile: Dr. Seth Gamradt

Seth Gamradt, MD, Director of Athletic Medicine; Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC; Orthopedic Surgeon with Keck Medicine of USC

Seth Gamradt is a specialist in the field of orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine at USC. 

His practice has an emphasis on: arthroscopic shoulder surgery (rotator cuff repair and shoulder stabilization/labrum repair); arthroscopic knee surgery and ligament reconstruction (ACL surgery); shoulder replacement (including conventional, revision, and reverse replacement); and elbow arthroscopy/ligament reconstruction. 

Dr. Gamradt has a special interest in caring for athletes of all ages and is a team physician and director of Orthopaedic Athletic Medicine for the USC Trojans. He is also a former team physician for United States Women’s Soccer. During his sports medicine fellowship, Dr. Gamradt was an assistant team physician to the New York Giants football team. Prior to his appointment at USC, Dr. Gamradt spent many years as a team physician and Orthopaedic Surgeon at UCLA.


Leadership Profile: Russ Romano

Russ Romano, MA, ATC, FAFS, is the Director of Operations of Athletic Medicine, Associate Athletic Director, and Head Athletic Trainer

He holds a master’s degree in biomechanics and a bachelor of arts degree in athletic training from San Diego State University, and completed a fellowship in applied functional science at the Gray Institute of Functional Transformation as well as certification in Owens Recovery Science blood flow restriction.

Russ Romano has specialized in care of USC Trojan athletes for more than three decades. In addition to providing medical care for USC student athletes, he has authored/co-authored articles published in peer reviewed journals, has served as an associate editor for Neurosurgery in the sports and rehabilitation section and has also reviewed journal manuscripts for World Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, Journal of Athletic Training and the British Journal of Sports Medicine. Russ Romano is the principal member of the Keck School of Medicine of USC Neurorestoration Center and also serves on the PAC-12 Brain Trauma Task Force. Russ Romano works collaboratively with Charles Liu, MD PhD in the evaluation, treatment, research and utilization of technologies aimed at brain health. He is the recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the San Diego State University School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences.
