The Rancho Los Amigos program continues to be the first and only NAEC epilepsy center in a safety-net hospital. 2018 marked the ribbon cutting of the new Outpatient Building. This resulted in improved facilities for EEG diagnostics, as well as for outpatients for the patients served by the DHS. 2019 saw the opening of the brand new operating room facilities, ICU, and imaging facilities. This resulted in substantial upgrades for the epilepsy surgical programs to state-of-the-art facilities. In addition, work continues on the EMU upgraded. When completed, Rancho will have a brand new hard-wired room with 4 bed capacity. These efforts are part of a $425 million capital upgrade to the physical plant of Rancho. Rancho has also greatly expanded its surgical programs to include frame-based sEEG capabilities. In addition, 2019 saw the initiation of the Neuropace RNS progam at Rancho. These are all firsts for a center that serves the most vulnerable epilepsy patients. Finally, the efforts of RLA-DHS programs was recognized at the 2019 Care and Cure event held at the Beverly Wilshire for offering curative epilepsy surgery for the most vulnerable patients. Dr. Arthur Partikian was the featured physician, and Sandra Oviedo and Guadalupe Corral-Leyva were recognized for their long-standing efforts.
