Student Researchers

Abby Kim, USC Class of 2022, has lived in many different cities around the world growing up, she currently hails from Fullerton (about 10 minutes from Disneyland!) and is pursuing a joint bachelor’s in Global Health and master’s in Public Health. She is thrilled to be part of the GRIT Lab, engaging in community-driven and youth empowering research in areas like malaria and COVID-19. In the future, after receiving her M.D., Abby hopes to pursue health equity in low-resource communities through the practice of medicine and public health. In her free time, she sings with her a cappella group, loves to visit national parks, and is always down for a late-night round of McDonald’s or boba.

Eunice Dulalia, USC Class of 2024, is majoring in Global Health Studies on a Pre-med track with a minor in Health Care Studies. Growing up in the Philippines and later migrating to the United States, she has witnessed the barriers that hinder people from accessing healthcare such as language literacy, low-income, etc. In that, she hopes to pursue a career in the medical field as a physician and desires to help provide access to healthcare to all people, especially those in underrepresented communities. On her free time, she enjoys singing karaoke as well as going on food trips and spontaneous adventures with friends around LA—boba runs are a must.

Eva Hartman is a sophomore at USC studying International Relations and Global Health. She’s a former researcher for USC’s Near Crisis Project and is an Editorial Fellow at the Global Policy Institute, where she writes about public health and the future of United States national security. She’s been a Ray United programming intern for a year and a half, where she has designed training for the Youth Public Health Ambassadors, written grant applications and program reports, and collaborated with the Peace Corps for World Malaria Day.

Mika Ishii is currently a sophomore at the University of Southern California majoring in Global Health and minoring in Natural Sciences.  She is hoping to pursue a career in medicine and is interested in many different fields of study including international relations, economics, science, public health, and music.  Outside of her academics, Mika enjoys writing, hiking in her hometown of Honolulu, playing the violin, and participating in the band as a member of the alto saxophone section.

Kevin Huang is currently a senior at USC majoring in Global health. He transfered to USC from UCSD at the start of the fall 2020 semester and that’s where he was first introduced to Professor Wipfli when he took her Introduction to Global Health class. During his second semester at USC, he got involved in GRIT Lab. He has worked as a data analyst in the ambassador report studies and then also helped contribute to the presentations on the Malaria report and the writing of the malaria abstract. In addition to his research with Professor Wipfli, he is also currently involved with another research project on the relationship between e-cigarettes, epigenetics and cancer. In his free time, he like to work out and play & watch soccer.
