Alzheimer’s Benefit Concert

Music on my Mind

In honor of Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, the Keck Music Society organized a special concert to raise funds for Music & Memory, a non-profit organization that facilitates music therapy for patients with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. (All donors were entered into a raffle for LA Opera tickets to Mozart’s The Clemency of Titus.) The program began with an introduction by Dr. Laura Mosqueda, Dean of the Keck School of Medicine and expert in geriatrics, and was preceded by various vocal, dance, and instrumental performances by Keck medical students.

Chris Snowdy is a child psychiatrist at USC, serving as Associate Program Director for the Child Psychiatry Fellowship and as medical director of the Child and Adolescent Outpatient Clinic at LAC-USC Medical Center.  Dr. Snowdy is a lifelong musician who initially struggled in college with whether to pursue a career in music or indulge his other passion for medicine.  He ultimately found a home for both in child psychiatry, where he has been successful in using music to promote the healing of his patients.
