Dear USC Student:

The university has recently updated “Staying Safe,” a prevention education module (PEM) tailored for USC students to make them aware of common risks, best practices, and campus resources available to help keep our community safer from harm. This PEM also provides important information about how students can engage in free expression in ways that support and adhere to the university’s mission, values, and policies. Students play a vital role in making USC a vibrant place to learn, work, live, and thrive.

Learn about all the PEMS at sites.usc.edu/pems

You may see your a full list of your current required assignments by logging in to the my.usc.edu portal.

Because the health and safety of everyone in our campus communities — including you and your peers — are of the highest importance to the university, this restructured and expanded module is being re-assigned to all continuing students who are returning to classes for the Fall 2024 semester, in addition to all new students.

You may take this revised module beginning August 1, 2024 by going to trojanlearn.usc.edu. The completion of the module may be taken online at your own pace; it takes approximately 90 minutes to complete. The due date for completion for this (and all other online, asynchronous PEMS that are assigned to you) is the first day of classes, August 26, 2024.

Students who do not complete the module will encounter a hold when attempting to register for classes for the spring 2025 semester.

As members of the USC community, residents of a global city, and participants in the digital world, we all have opportunities every day to learn more about staying safe from risks to physical, digital, and personal safety, while helping support the well-being of the entire Trojan community.

The new sections in the module will cover core information about the university and its services and resources; protecting your safety both in real life and in digital encounters; and expressing and engaging with different viewpoints in ways that are robust, civil, and consistent with university policy.

Please engage critically with the presented material, save important contact numbers in your phone, and reach out to USC offices if you have any questions.
