About me:
I am interested in DEI because of my bimodal experience of being a Black woman in healthcare, both as a patient and in pursuing a professional healthcare career– a field that still is underrepresented by Black women. Increasing Black representation in healthcare has direct implications for reducing healthcare disparities in the Black community, since the mistrust of healthcare professionals has historically prevented this community from seeking medical attention. The first step toward increasing professional representation is to help recruit, increase representation, and promote retention of Black students pursuing a healthcare education, and this starts with DEI efforts in the education system.
